Electromagnetics Engineer
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Electromagnetics Engineer to join our engineering team, working on the next generation of high-performance electric motors. In this role you will be responsible for designing the electromagnetic components of motors targeting a wide range of applications.
You will help develop the electromagnetic models and assumptions at the foundation of Alva’s designs and analysis. This involves both mathematically derived analytical models in the form of code, as well as numerical simulation. For someone who enjoys working at the intersection of electromagnetic theory, software and hardware, this is great opportunity to contribute to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with electric motors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the electromagnetic design of components for Alva’s electric motors, from concept through production readiness.
- Serve as a technical expert in meetings with customers
- Help improve Alva’s internal motor design software, particularly in terms of electromagnetic modelling
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including mechanical, production engineering, and testing—to align designs with functional and manufacturing requirements.
- Contribute to innovation and development of Alva’s motor technology, by using your electromagnetic expertiseto identify possible areas of improvement
- Assist in prototyping and testing efforts, contribute to continuous improvements in design quality and help ensure that real performance matches modelled expectations.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant education, preferably a master’s degree in electrical engineering or physical engineering with emphasis on electromagnetics/electromechanics
- A strong understanding of electromagnetic fields, forces and losses
- Knowledge of relevant materials, like permanent magnets and electrical steel
- Experienced in the use of COMSOL AC/DC or Ansys Maxwell
- Basic experience with programming/coding, at a minimum. Python experience is an advantage.
- Familiarity with motor control techniques is an advantage
- Experience with testing of electrical systems is an advantage
- Experience with electric propulsion or motion is an advantage
- Skilled in both written and spoken communication
- This position can be appropriate for both new graduates and highly experienced engineers
